Synergy creates work for young people that explores urgent issues that they face in relation to crime. This includes touring theatre productions and films and workshops for mainstream schools, PRUs, alternative provision and young offender prisons, longer-term interventions with key partners and bespoke projects. Our productions are commissioned in consultation with young people and have recently focused on violence, knife crime and county lines. Participation results in increased confidence, development of new creative skills, greater awareness of criminal activity and its consequences, better teamworking and, in some cases, re-engagement with mainstream education.
All of our activity for young people is led by industry professionals and supported by individuals with lived experience of the criminal justice system, each trained by Synergy, who lend a credible and honest voice to our work. Activity takes the forms of drama, filmmaking, playwriting and spoken word and can be delivered in person, digitally or take a blended approach. We also offer online one-to-one creative interventions for young people at risk of offending.
If you work in a school, college, alternative provision, with young people at risk of offending or would like to make a referral, please contact Synergy’s Learning and Engagement Manager, Siân on sian@synergytheatreproject.co.uk
