American playwriting Stephen Adly Guirgis is known for his depiction of the down and outs in society and the seedy side of New York life through is plays such as Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train, Den of Thieves and The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.
Directors Esther Baker (Synergy Theatre Project), Indhu Rubasingham (Tricycle Theatre) and actor Yul Vázquez who is in The Motherf**ker with the Hat (NT and Broadway) and is a founding member of the LAByrinth Theatre Company will explore Guirgis’ playwriting, recurring themes in his plays and the staging of his work in the UK including the NT production of The Motherf**ker with the Hat and Synergy’s productions of Den of Thieves by prisoners at HMP Brixton and Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train with ex-prisoners at Trafalgar Studios.
