Introduction to Acting course with Morley College

Synergy Studio participants showcased their acting skills in an intimate performance at the Calder Bookshop Theatre after completing a demanding 10-week introductory acting course, hosted by Morley College.

Performances included extracts from Been So Long by Ché Walker, True West by Sam Shepherd, Speed the Plow by David Mamet and Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train by Stephen Adly Guirgis.

There was a lot of talent on stage and we can’t wait to see more from our new actors.

This is the second collaboration with Morley College, a Further Education college based in Southwark, using quality theatre training and performances as a tool for engagement.

The aim of the partnership is to equip Synergy Studio members with new skills, increase confidence and support members to progress smoothly onto further courses at Morley.

Since completing the course, 75% have gone onto enrol on further courses at the college.

A snapshot from participants’ feedback includes:

  • It has given me the confidence of working with people and realising my own talent
  • It has made me more confident in speaking in public, to many people
  • I gained confidence and have a lot more incentive to do more
  • When I came out of jail I felt isolated. This course gave me something to focus on
