Synergy’s Short Stage Play competition, LOCKDOWN DRAMAS received over 100 entries from prisoners and ex-prisoners across England and Wales. We were inspired by the creativity, originality, urgency, humour and skill of writers responding to our invitation to create new plays in response to lockdown and the covid-19 pandemic.
The winning plays written by prisoners are:
1st Prize: Benny and Tommy by Terry (HMP Highpoint)
2nd Prize: Your Future Awaits You by John (HMP Isle of Wight)
3rd Prize: Daytrip to Barnard Castle by Mike (HMP Bure)
The winning plays written by ex-prisoners are:
1st Prize: Food of Peace by Frank
2nd Prize: Love In The Time of Corona by Alex
3rd Prize: Mind Over Manner by Megan
Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to all the participating writers along with the staff who have helped support their work and made sure it reached us.
Professional actors will be reading the winning plays in a special performance which we look forward to broadcasting later this Autumn in order to celebrate the writers success in public and in prison.
Synergy Theatre Project welcomes new plays written by prisoners and ex-prisoners all year round. Submission guidelines can be found here.
