The Gut Girls

Every time I think of those poor creatures my heart goes out to them.

Poor is one thing they’re not.

The Gut Girls of the Deptford Foreign Cattle Market were well-paid to do a horrible job until a local aristocrat took an interest in “improving them.” But would they rather be polite servants in good homes? And what choice did they have?

Sarah Daniels’ knife sharp dissection of Victorian women’s work offers a boisterous, funny and shocking reflection to today’s struggles for freedom and fairness.

Gut Girls was performed to the cast and crew’s friends and families, prisoners, prison staff and invited public audiences.

It was fantastic - brilliant performances and really meaningful. I see about 80 shows a year and this was right up there.
